I could hear the Big Boy approaching for about ninety seconds before it finally appeared from behind the trees.

*The number one indicates that UP4014 was part of the first group of twenty Big Boys built in 1941-42. The five Big Boys built in 1944 had the number two. UP4014 was built in November 1941.

Good speakers or headphones are recommended. - Amtrak's California Zephyr number five was the opening act. - UP4014 passed by fairly slow because it was preparing to stop less than a mile ahead at milepost 157. Also it arrived on a curve, so if you look carefully you can see the articulation. You also get the classic steam engine chugging and a pretty good whistle show at the railroad crossing. - The location is the railroad crossing at Alta Bonnynook Road, near milepost 156.2.
