I have combined three photographs of new rail waiting to be installed.
At the top are two short rail sections connected together with an insulated rail joint. Insulated rail joints are commonly (but not always) painted to differentiate them from standard rail joints. The entire assembly will probably be welded in place when it's installed.
In the middle is the tapered end of a switch point. Note the steel plate, full of holes, bolted to the web of the rail.
A look at the full length of the switch point is at the bottom. For clarity, main track two is in the foreground, followed by a section of new rail which is followed by the switch point.
